Organization Publishers outside Finland can apply for grants to support marketing activities for new translations of Finnish books. Organisers of events (such as literary festivals) can also apply for these grants.

Reader's report grant

Continuous call

Organization Publishers outside Finland can apply for a grant to cover the cost of commissioning a reader’s report on a fiction, non-fiction, children’s or young adult (YA) book published in Finland.

Sample translation grant

Continuous call

Organization Publishers and literary agents may apply for sample translation grants to support their sales activities. The applicant must be authorised to represent translation rights in the work and be prepared to conduct negotiations on pricing and contract terms with the foreign publisher. Grants are available for sample translations of works published in Finland and written in the Finnish, Finland-Swedish or Sámi language.

Kauno- ja tieto­kirjallisuuden suomennostuki

Organization FILI tarjoaa tukea ulkomaisen kauno- ja tietokirjallisuuden suomentamiseen. Tuki kohdistuu suomentajan palkkioon ja hakijana toimii aina kustantaja. Tukea voi hakea kaksi kertaa vuodessa. Suomennostukiohjelman tarkoituksena on edistää vähälevikkisen, ulkomaisen laatukirjallisuuden suomentamista ja julkaisemista Suomessa.

Translation and printing grant

Organization FILI offers grants to support the translation of Finnish literature. Grants are awarded for translating works of fiction and general non-fiction, children’s and young adult (YA) books, and comics and graphic novels from the Finnish, Swedish and Sámi languages. Grants are available only for works originally published in Finland. These grants are intended for publishers outside Finland and are to be applied towards the translator’s fee. Grants are also available for printing costs for comics and graphic novels and for children’s picture books. The publisher must simultaneously apply for a translation grant from FILI.
